Some pensioners of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, have appealed to the Federal Government to pay the backlog of arrears of their monthly pensions amounting to billions of naira.

Chairman, Electricity Sector Retirees Welfare Association, Ibadan Chapter, Deacon Joseph Adewunmi made the appeal when he led some members of the association on a protest to the Broadcasting House of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ibadan.

Deacon Adewunmi said some of the arrears were short payment of entitlements, arrears of salary harmonization, and arrears of one hundred and twenty percent pension increment.

Mr. Adewunmi added that all efforts to make the Federal Government pay their backlog of pensions have been futile.

Also speaking, the Ibadan Chapter Secretary of the association, Mr. Gabriel Oladigboye and another member, Mr. Sam Agbetuyi lamented the hardship they encountered as a result of the non-payment of the arrears.

The pensioners enjoined the federal government to pay the arrears to enhance their standard of living.
