The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State has called for thorough investigation into the circumstances behind shooting of five of its members by a mobile policeman during a rally in Ado Ekiti.
The Party also blamed the security personnel for their unprofessional role in the incident.
Subsequently, the APC in Ekiti state has suspended its governorship campaign earlier scheduled for this week.
Speaking at a news conference in Ado Ekiti, the APC State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe observed that the incident was a further confirmation of an attempt to assassinate the governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and other notable party leaders.
Chief Awe said they were waiting on the police to convince the party that the security of its members were guaranteed before any campaign.
He explained that the police officer deliberately shot at APC Members after the rally, contrary to the police claim that it was an accidental discharge.
Chief Awe maintained that all the victims of the gunshot were alive, adding that the party was in contact with them in the various hospitals where they were receiving treatment.
