Media organizations have been implored to always embark on background checks on advertisers, especially travel agencies so as not to be an accessory to fraud.
This was stated by the National Vice President, National Association of Travel Agencies in charge of Western Zone, Mr Olatokunbo Dagunduro, during a courtesy visit to the management of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan.
Mr Dagunduro noted that media houses unknowingly air adverts from unscrupulous persons who claim to be a genuine travel agents with the intent to defraud members of the public.
He stressed that the tourism sector is a huge income earner for the nation and should not be allowed to be ruined by the greed of selected few.
The zonal vice president also noted that Nigerians should be cautious of travel agencies, especially as criminal minded people explore every avenue to traffic unsuspecting citizens.
Mr Dagunduro maintained that the association would continue to sensitize Nigerians by using credible medium, especially Radio Nigeria because of its wider reach to protects the citizens from fraudsters.
In a remark, Zonal Director, FRCN, Ibadan, Alhaji Mohammed Bello assured the association that the station in line with the Federal Government’s, stand on corruption would help in stamping the menace.
Alhaji Bello said Radio Nigeria would continue to partner organization that contributes to the development of the country.
