Mobile Police Force in Ekiti state have cordoned off the Fajuyi and Government House areas of Ado Ekiti to prevent breaking down of law and order.
According to Radio Nigeria correspondent, PDP supporters who were set for a rally organised by the State Governor were prevented from coming out of Government House.
Party members had converged on the popular Fajuyi Park in Ado Ekiti, the state capital on Wednesday before gunshots were reportedly fired into the air.
Radio Nigeria gathered that people at Fajuyi area were also dispersed with teargas by policemen.
Governor Ayodele Fayose had earlier in a broadcast directed PDP supporters in the state to dress in white attire and gather at the government house for a mass rally.
The Governor described the rally as ‘Pre-Victory Walk’, ahead of Saturday’s Governorship election in the state.
The development resulted in the relocation of the rally to the Government House premises, where Governor Ayodele Fayose and other PDP leaders are expected to address the party members.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu explained that the move was to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state capital and other parts of Ekiti ahead of the July 14 governorship election, adding that normalcy had returned to the area.
