The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command has paraded ten suspects for the illegal sale of new currency notes.
The suspects who were paraded by the NSCDC State Commandant, Mr. John Adewoye said the operation was carried out with assistance of the Central Bank of Nigeria officials.
Parading the suspects at the NSCDC Headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, Mr. Adewoye said the suspects were apprehended at various spots in Ibadan where they engage in the sales of the notes after effective surveillance by its personnel.
The Commandant stressed that the suspects had contravened the CBN Act, Section 20 which states that no person should counterfeit, hawk, sell or otherwise trade the Naira notes, coins or any other note issued by the bank.
He assured that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter was concluded.
Mr. Adewoye also cautioned those still engaging in the illegal act to desist from it, lest they be made to face the wrath of the law.
One of the suspects, Dotun Wahab said one Mr. Ade, who is now at large supplied him with the new currency notes.
Another suspect, Anifat Abiodun said she buys the new Naira notes in Oshodi, Lagos State then brings it to Ibadan to sell.
Mr. Adewoye however added that the clampdown on the illegal currency sale operations is continuous.
