A boxing academy is to be established in Ogun State as part of the efforts to develop the game in the state.
The chairman, Ogun State Boxing Association, Mr Ajani Aremu stated this during the quarterly boxing Hall of Fame held at the Sports Council, Ijeja, Abeokuta.
Mr Ajani who was part of Nigeria’s 1976 Olympics team in Canada said the academy was an initiative of the state association to build formidable boxers for the state.
The chairman, Ogun State Boxing Association explained that the quarterly boxing hall of fame was to expose young boxers to the rudiments of the game.
Also, the Secretary of the association, Mr. David Osuolale said the competition was organised to prepare and select boxers that would represent the state at the fourth National Youth Games.
Mr Osuolale who described the competition as a platform for talents discovery said over fifty boxers had been discovered since the commencement of the bouts in the state.
The competition witnessed eight bouts in different weight categories.
