Some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abeokuta North Local Government area of Ogun State have protested the alleged imposition of candidates on them by the leadership of the party.

The aggrieved persons, who staged a peaceful protest to the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta claimed that the party leaders had given preference to loyalists of the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun during the screening for state House of Assembly aspirants.

The group of protesters under the aegis of Ogun Vanguard displayed placards bearing various inscriptions such as ‘don’t kill democracy’, ‘let the wish of the people prevail’, and ‘our democracy is under threat in Abeokuta North’.

Spokesperson for the protesters, Mr. Ayoola Kabir and Adeyemo Azeez expressed concern that if not urgently addressed, the development could deprive the eligible aspirants the opportunity to contest elections.

Meanwhile Publicity Secretary of APC in Ogun State Mr. Wole Elegbede has dissociated the state party’s executive from the alleged disqualification of the aspirants. He stated that the aspirants were disqualified by the Screening Committee for reasons clearly stated in the result of the screening exercise.

Mr. Elegbede said the Ogun APC did not interfere in the work of the committee.
