Local Government chairmen in Ekiti State are currently undergoing scrutiny on their activities since assumption of office by the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Public Account.
The exercise started with Ise/Orun Local Government where the Director of Administration of the Council, Mrs. Modupe Fase gave the financial account for the year under review due to the low education qualification of the chairman of the council, Mr. Ropo Kolawole.
Responding, the committee members observed series of discrepancies in the finances of the council as well as lack of inclusions of various funds received, hence the team was asked to go back and perfect its paper for future presentation.
In his reaction, the chairman, House Committee on Information who is also a member of the committee, Chief Gboyega Aribisagan said all councils must be meticulous in their reports as their papers would still be verified by auditors and security agencies.
According to Chief Aribisagan, the exercise was not to witch-hunt the chairmen but to ensure proper management of the state’s resources.
