Ogun State Police Command has intercepted a cache of live cartridges of ammunition at a border community in Imeko/ Afon Local Government Area of the state.

The over thirty thousand live ammunition contraband were concealed in a vehicle with registration number, Lagos KSF 254 XX, reportedly heading to Onitsha in Anambra State.

Residents of Imeko and surrounding border communities in Ogun State could not hide their shock and disbelief when the ammunitions were unveiled by police.

Leading men and officers of the command to Ilara a border town in Imeko Afon where the discovery was made, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu said the feat was made possible through intelligence gathering during routine stop and search conducted by his men.

The commissioner of police said three suspects had been arrested in connection with the ammunition and promised that the suspects would be made to face the consequences of their action.

He expressed concern that the effect of ammunition was better imagined if allowed to get into wrong hands, especially as activities towards the general elections gathered momentum.

The traditional ruler of the community Oba Benjamin Olanite called for more security presence at the border communities with the establishment of more police area commands among other security arrangements.

Other residents of the border community also called on security operatives to be more vigilant and proactive to ensure that border areas were safe and well secured to checkmate the activities of unscrupulous elements in the country.
