Judge Absence: Oyo NUP, State Govt. Case Postponed

The adjourned hearing in a suit between Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State branch, and the state government over nonpayment of gratuities and pensions of retired primary school teachers at the Industrial Court sitting in Ibadan, could not come up today due to absence of the presiding Judge, Justice J.D. Peters.

Pensioners in large numbers had besieged the premises of the National Industrial Court located at Adeoyo, Ring road, Ibadan, for the hearing of the case and they were later informed that the case would not come up.

However, reasons for the absence of the judge still remain unknown as at the time of filling this report.

Meanwhile, the lead counsel to the claimants, Alhaji Lasun Sanusi, SAN, in an interview with newsmen, said the next adjourned hearing has been fixed for 5th of next month, in agreement with the counsel to the defendants and communicated the date to the court officials.

Alhaji Sanusi, SAN, also stated that both parties had been working out modalities to settle out of court.
