The World Bank in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment has donated ICT and other office equipment to Ondo State
National Coordinator, REDD Plus, Dr Moses Ama while presenting the equipment to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Akure, the Ondo State capital
Dr Ama explained that the donation was made for effective takeoff of the REDD Plus, an acronym for Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation.
The REDD Plus coordinator noted that the step was also geared towards conservation, sustainable forest management and carbon stock
Mr Ama added that Ondo State was chosen owing to its strong interest in the forestry sub-sector, especially the recent planting of one million seedlings covering 10,000 hectares of land afforestation project.
Governor Akeredolu commended the bodies for their concerns towards having a safe environment as a result of climate change
The governor advised Nigerians to replace deforestation and other environmental pollution with re-afforestation and environmental conservation, pointing out that climate change had become visible globally as temperature continued to rise.
