The Ogun State Executive Council has held a special meeting in honor of a prominent son of the State and British Heavyweight World Champion, Anthony Joshua, on his recent triumph over Carlos Takam in International Boxing Federation, IBF title.

At the meeting in Abeokuta, the State Capital, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga who led Government’s delegation to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff for the encounter described Joshua’s victory as a laudable feat for Ogun State.

The world sensation, Anthony Joshua has his family roots in Sagamu, and his achievements abroad had continued to generate excitement and accolades among the cabinet members who took their turns to extol the virtues of the champion.

In a remark, The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Afolabi Afuape said Anthony Joshua deserved commendation and support from his home Country, Nigeria and especially his State of Origin.

The sports Commissioner also gave the assurance that the present administration would continue to acknowledge the support and contributions of the people towards promoting sporting activities in the state.

Also, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga who presided over the meeting expressed the hope that the victory would inspire youths to always strive for excellence in  their various fields of endeavor.

Mrs Onanuga who recounted her experience in Cardiff, described Anthony Joshua as a professional and a thoroughbred Nigerian .

Responding to questions from Journalists after the meeting, Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa said the present administration would continue to celebrate and appreciate icons who had put the name of the state on the world map.

Mr Adeoluwa also added that the IBF Heavyweight World champion had indicated interest to visit the state, noting that arrangements were ongoing to receive him.
