The Federal Road Safety Corps says it will partner other security agencies to further reduce road crashes during the Yuletide.
Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi stated this in a lecture during the annual Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oyo State Council.
In the lecture entitled: “Road Safety in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects” the FRSC Corps Marshall, Dr. Oyeyemi said out of the over one million people that die annually, 82 percent of these deaths were caused by human beings.
The FRSC Boss who observed that road cashes in Nigeria had reduced meaningfully, said the FRSC would partner the Police force to further reduce road crashes during the yuletide.
He attributed road cashes to cultural believes, bad state of roads and vehicles, use of substandard tyres, overloading and over speeding.
Dr Oyeyemi emphasized the need for attitudinal change among Nigerians who were fond of removing road signs and railings.
He also promised to assist states in the provision of logistics to centralize and ease collection of Drivers license.
Earlier, the Chairman, NUJ Oyo state council , Mr. Adewunmi Faniran has said the topic was borne out of the desire to ensure safety for the citizens.
Mr. Faniran said the State Council would continue to partner relevant agencies to fast track development.
Participants described the lecture as timely and worthwhile.
