Wesley College Ibadan 1982 Set has donated broadcast equipment to Radio Nigeria.
Presenting the equipment at the Broadcasting House, Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Chief Monitor, Wesley College Ibadan, Chief Bartholomew Obasi, noted that it was the moral obligation of the Alumni to donate them in view of the appointment of Deacon Femi Oladipo – one their members- as the General Manager, Positive FM, Akure.
Chief Obasi explained that the donation of the laptop and console was part of their contributions to ensure the success of Deacon Oladipo.
He pointed out that Deacon Oladipo had the journalistic streak in him back in his school days as he initiated the formation of the school’s press club.
The Head, Wesley 1982 Set also used the occasion to urge government to revisit the policy of cancelling Grade II Programme for teachers, as part of measures to reinvent the education sector.
He noted that the decline in standard of teaching had been further highlighted by the dismal performance during a test conducted on teachers in Kaduna State late last year.
Chief Obasi stressed that Grade 11 Programme had contributed immensely to academic achievement before it was phased out two decades ago.
In his response, Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, who expressed the station’s appreciation for the kind gesture, described the donation as a rare honour.
Alhaji Bello lauded the communal spirit of the Wesley College 1982 Set, pointing out that such collaboration was what communities in the country needed to enhance development.
