Three hundred youths in Ogun State have been empowered to start their private businesses as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the problem of unemployment and boost wealth creation.
Addressing the beneficiaries in Abeokuta, The Director General, Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Mr Joseph Ariwa said the measure would enable them to contribute to National development as young entrepreneurs.
Radio Nigeria correspondent reports that the youths were provided with start-up packs for different vocations including fashion designing, welding and plumbing.
The event marked the closing ceremony of the National Industrial Skills Development Programme, NISDP, put together by the Industrial Training Fund, ITF
The Director General, Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Mr Ariwa who was represented by the Director of Finance, Mrs Lola Gbadamosi said the initiative was part of Federal Government’s policy of job creation and poverty reduction.
Describing the programme as an opportunity for the youths to become entrepreneurs, Mr Ariwa advised the beneficiaries not to sell any of the items presented to them, pointing out that the start-up packs would enable them to set up their own businesses.
The Director General of ITF gave the assurance that the ITF would monitor the beneficiaries properly to enhance their productivity.
In a message to the occasion, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun described the programme as a huge opportunity for youths development and urged the people to embrace vocational skills to make them self reliant.
Governor Amosun who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa commended the ITF for its determination to tackle unemployment through the provision of vocational trainings and promised his administration’s support towards realizing the goal.
In a remark the Area Manager of ITF, Mrs Olayinka Shodunke enjoined the trainees to make good use of the skills acquired to impact positively on the society.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with Radio Nigeria appreciated the Federal Government for the opportunity and promised to use the items judiciously.
