UPDATE: Students Protest Hit Akure over Hike in AAUA Tuition

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, AAUA, Akungba, are now on the streets of Akure, the Ondo State capital, protesting hike in their school fees.

The students are marching from Oba Adesida to Alagbaka road.

The protesters are chanting anti-Ondo State Government songs & armed with different placards to demand that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu should immediately reverse the increment in their tuition.

The State government and the AAUA governing council had last week approved increase in the school’s tuition from average of #30,000 to #180,000/#200,000.

In an interview with newsmen, the Chairman, AAUA Governing Council, Dr Tunji Abayomi said the University was facing financial crunch and if the tuition was not increased, it could lead to the collapse of the Institution in no distant time.

Dr Abayomi who was accompanied by the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, called on the students and parents to show understanding in order to move the school to a greater height.
