An Ibadan based cycling coach, Mr Aminu Kolapo wants government and corporate bodies to pay attention to other sports towards the development of the games.
Coach Kolapo made the call in Abeokuta during a cycling competition organised by Ogun State Cycling Association.
The cycling coach, who described too much focus on football at the expense of other sports as unfortunate, stressed the need for parents to also encourage their children to participate in the sport.
Coach Kolapo said the country had the potential that could compete favourably with their counterparts across the world if necessary machinery was put in place.
Also, the head coach of Ogun State cycling team, Mr Amao Kamoli said the competition was to prepare the state’s cyclists for the National Youth Games in Ilorin and the National Sports Festival that would be staged in Abuja later this year.
Coach Kamoli solicited the continued support of government towards the growth of cycling in the state.
Twenty seven cyclists drawn from Oyo and Ogun states participated in the competition.
