Normalcy has returned to The Polytechnic Ibadan following yesterday’s murder of a final year student of Department of Marketing, The Polytechnic Ibadan Olaniyi Hammed Olalekan
The victim, who was said to have been the pioneer president of the student anti cultism called the Student Forum was said to have been murdered last night.
This, according to findings, propelled members of the Student Forum to embark on a combing mission to fish out the suspected killers of Olalekan.
The move is believed not to have gone well with some cult members, who violently resisted The Students Forum.
In a chat with Radio Nigeria, Speaker, Students Union Government, Adedijo Olowokere, said killings and recurrent violence had characterized the institution, noting that the school management should find a lasting solution.
A member of The Student Forum, Ridwanlai Adeyemi and another student, Alfred Glory who decried the killing, said they were with the deceased the previous night, and were shocked by his unfortunate death.
Two students, who appeared confused, explained that they could really give any account of what happened but were only trying to get to safety.
Efforts to contact the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Soladoye Adewole on the school’s decision on the matter were not successful, as he was not responding to telephone calls.
When contacted, Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Oyo State, Mr Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the police was aware and on top of the situation.
As at the time of the filing this report, normalcy had returned as heavy security presence was already in place.
Meanwhile, a source confirmed that the deceased had been buried in line with Islamic rights.
