Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo state, Mr. Seyi Makinde has sued for peace across the political divide for a successful poll in the state.
Addressing newsmen at the Omititun Campaign Organization Office, Iwo Road, Ibadan, Mr. Makinde stressed the need for politicians to call their followers to order in view of heightened political situation in Oyo state.
He said the step became necessary due to violent incidents across the state in places like Ogbomoso, Igbo Ora, Ojoo, Omi Adio, Oke Ado and in Oyo in the last two weeks.
Mr. Makinde reiterated that the ambition of any politician does not worth the blood of innocent citizens who struggle daily to make ends meet.
“I want to join our religious leaders and traditional rulers to ask we politicians to sheath our swords, call our followers to order and preach peace because our political differences must not be allowed to translate into street wars” he stated.
The PDP governorship hopeful therefore called on security agencies to move fast and douse further tension to save lives and properties.
“Apart from a few skirmishes here and there, the spate of political thuggery and violence is assuming a worrisome dimension that should be of grave concern to all.”
“We strongly recommend that both the Commissioner of Police and his Department of State Security, DSS, counterpart must call an emergency meeting of leaders of all the political parties and commit them to an undertaking of peace”
The PDP campaign train later toured Ona-Ara Local Government to canvass for votes in the forthcoming election.
Former Minister Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide during the rally at Olorunsogo in the local government area said people could trust Mr. Makinde with their votes to take Oyo state to greater heights.
