Political Parties Sign Peace Accord in Ondo

Representatives of major political parties in Ondo State have converged  on Akure to sign a peace accord under the Nigeria Police to ensure peaceful general election on February 16 and March 2.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr Jibril Yakubu, who supervised the signing of the accord alongside the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Undie Adie, disclosed that the police would be fair and just to all political parties.

DIG Yakubu, who will co-ordinate the elections in the South West zone, maintained that the police was battle ready to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.

Speaking on behalf of the political parties, Pastor Gbenga Awe of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, assured that parties would cooperate with security agencies in the state and honour the peace pact towards ensuring a peaceful exercise.
