Oyo state government has approved one point five billion Naira for immediate disbursement of pension arrears to one thousand and ten retired primary school teachers and local government staff in the state.
This was disclosed in Ibadan at a news conference jointly organised by the Ministries of Justice and Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, which featured symbolic presentation of cheques to selected pensioners.
Addressing the pensioners, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Mr. Seun Abimbola explained that though, the pension arrears had been on ground before the current administration, the state government had resolved to offset the arrears on a quarterly basis.
In a remark, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Bimbo Kolade said the list of the concerned one thousand and one pensioners would be pasted at every local government secretariats.
In separate interviews, two of the pensioners, Messers Steven Fadare and Adejunmo Adeniyi were full of gratitude to God and appreciated the state government for the development.
Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, in the state, Mr. Olusegun Abatan urged the state government not to default on their resolution to offset the pension arrears for the retired primary school teachers and local government staff on quarterly basis.
