Eighty youths from Ogun Central Senatorial District are undergoing training on value addition to agricultural produce in Abeokuta.
The Federal Government programme through the Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority would enable the participants to be self reliant as they would be provided with equipment and capital to start off their businesses.
The Federal Government training and empowerment programme is focused on fish preparation, confectionaries, soap and disinfectants production.
The youths are also being trained on packaging, branding and marketing.
According to the Managing Director of Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Olufemi Odumosu, youths with the power to positively change the society needed to be empowered with education; moral and entrepreneurship skills that would make them transform the society and reduce unemployment.
Mr. Odumosu assured the participants that the authority would monitor and evaluate the business established by the youths.
Also speaking, Executive Director of Finance and Administration of the authority, Mr. Olayiwola Baruwa noted that the training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of the youths and urged the participants to judiciously utilize the equipment and the capital that would be given after the training.
A motivational speaker, Mr. Caleb Akinayajo also delivered a lecture on the need for the youths to change their orientation and be ready t o establish and sustain their business.
The Federal Government training is expected to be replicated in the other two senatorial district of Ogun State.
