OYHA Passes Law To Punish Builders who Flout Construction Regulations


Speaker, Oyo State House of A ssembly, Mr Olagunju Ojo has called on building engineers to comply with construction laws and regulations to forestall the incessant cases of building collapse in the state.

The call was made after the House unanimously adopted and passed into law, the Oyo state Bureau of Physical planning and development control amendment bill 2018, presented by member representing Surulere/Ogo Oluwa state constituency, Dr Peter Oyetunji.

The law made provisions for enforcement, sanctions and legal backings for the state Bureau of physical planning and development.

The Speaker who said the law is expected to reduce incessant cases of building collapse as a result of contravention of development plans, charged relevant agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the law.

In an interview, sponsor of the bill, and Chairman, House committee on Lands, Housing and Survey, Dr Peter Oyetunji advised Members of the public to consult the state bureau of physical planning before construction.

The House however adjourned its sitting to the 16th of this months.
