Candidate of All Progressive Congress, APC, in the March 9 governorship election in Oyo State , Mr. Adebayo Adelabu wants the governorship election petition tribunal to order Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recount all ballot paper used for the conduct of the election.
Counsel to Mr. Adelabu and his party APC, Mr. Titus Asaolu made the call while moving an application calling for order for recounting of the ballot paper.
Mr. Asaolu said the recount should be in the presence of party representatives, secretary to the tribunal, and security operatives.
He explained that such exercise was to be sure of actual votes each party got during the election.
Opposing the application counsel to INEC, Mr. Akinlolu Kehinde said the business of ballot paper stopped at polling unit and it could only be done once at polling unit.
Counsel to the winner of the election, Mr. Seyi Makinde, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede described the application as stillborn, which should be dismissed
Counsel of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Nathaniel Oke, said the application was not necessary as the petitioner had already applied to check electoral materials used for the election, which included the ballot paper.
Ruling on their various argument, chairman of the tribunal, Justice Sirajo Muhammed adjourned the ruling on the application till next week Monday.
The tribunal also reserved ruling on seven application bothering on striking out various application filed by both petitioner and respondents till the last day of the tribunal.
