The Nigeria Police have expressed readiness to upgrade security in the riverine areas of Ondo State to fight increasing rate of crimes.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Eleven, Adeleye Oyebade disclosed this while addressing stakeholders in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Mr Oyebade explained that arrangements were ongoing with the Ondo State Government to equip Marine Police to attack suspected criminals in the riverine areas.
The AIG pointed out that intelligence gathered had shown that the rate of crimes in the southern part of the state would get out of hand if not nipped in the bud.
Mr Oyebade who was on a-day familiarization tour to Ondo State urged officers, especially the Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, across the state to avoid acts capable of bringing shame to the force.
Some stakeholders at the forum had asked the AIG to direct DPOs to create a platform for periodic interaction with various youth groups as part of efforts to curb heinous crimes among them.
Others stressed the need for the Police to summon and warn herbalists across the state as the rate of ritual killing was now a source of worry to residents.
