Academic activities were this morning paralyzed at the University of Ibadan, as members of the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU continued with their peaceful protest to press home their demands.
The Unions among other things were demanding the implementation of the 2009 agreement reached with the Federal government which includes payment of earned allowance of the members of the unions.
Addressing news men, Chairman, SSANU, University of Ibadan Chapter, Mr Wale Akinremi said Federal government through the National Industrial Court had agreed to incorporate salaries of staff members in staff schools into the university system but the University of Ibadan had failed to comply.
Mr Akinremi also said two percent of the 21 billion naira released by the Federal government was earmarked for non-academic staff members while eight percent was allocated to the academic staff.
Speaking in the same vein, National Vice Chairman of SSANU, Mr Alfred Jimoh said Federal government has also failed to remove anomalies noticed in the Integrated Personal Payroll Information system, IPPIS for the inclusion of UI staff in the system.
The peaceful protest which commenced early this week was part of a five day warning strike of the union.
